Concept Mapping

Through the Concept Mapping Assignment I learned how to make an efficient, informative concept map. I have created concept maps before, but never created maps that had any depth to them. I learned how to create text notes that expanded further on specific topics and sub-topics. This was also the first time I have created hyperlinks on a concept map, and I believe it is a great way to provide multiple means of representation for topics and subtopics. A problem I encountered during this assignment was making sure every point was linked properly. This problem was solved by simply moving around different items until everything fit perfectly.
I am excited to one day integrate the use of concept maps into teaching in my future classroom. This will be a great visual to benefit my students so they can better understand how different ideas are related to each other. Concept maps will also be a great way for my students to engage in the lessons and improve their learning by organizing their thoughts and ideas on paper. It would also be a great idea to have my students create occasional concepts maps instead of regular homework. The students will be able to thoroughly illustrate their knowledge of a subject while emphasizing what they already know. During this assignment, I met the NETS-T Standard 1 because I used technology to advance my learning, used creative thinking and ingenuity, and used the concept map to explain and demonstrate my thinking and creative ideas.
